Dr. Kumar is a licensed clinical psychologist. He is a founder of Therapeutic Residential Services, a private agency providing services to clients in the Bay Area. He also co-founded another mental health (The Hume Center) agency in June 1993. He served as President of the Hume Center until August 31, 2004.

Dr. Kumar has 40 years of experience in the mental health field and serving the underserved communities with dedication. He volunteered for five years in this country full time to learn how to serve without expectations. He began his professional career in 1983 as a social scientist (psychologist) with the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Collaborative Center for Mental Health and Research, Department of Psychiatry, PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. Later he completed his doctorate in Clinical Neuropsychology from the Department of Neurosurgery, PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. He finished his post-doctoral training from St. Mary’s Hospital and Medical Center, San Francisco. He has provided mental health services to varied clientele populations along with clinical supervision and teaching to postgraduate students of clinical psychology in the Bay Area for the last fourteen years.
Dr. Kumar is very active in interfaith activities and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County. He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of Monument Community Partnership (MCP), Concord. He also started the Annual Interfaith Spring Festival in downtown Concord, California for the last two years to build bridges in the different faith communities in the Bay Area to live happily and peacefully.
Dr. Kumar has won many awards for his community services in the Bay Area. Dr. Kumar was honored on August 15, 2002, with a Certificate of Recognition by the Senate of State of California for his services to the welfare of the citizens of California. He was also honored with HIND RATTAN (Jewel of India) AWARD in 1996 by The Non-Resident-Indians Welfare Society of India for his achievements and contributions to the well being of the Indo-American community as well as to the mainstream society in the United States. Recently he was honored by the Federation of Indo-American Associations of Northern California.
